Bikepackia

Mobile app status

The Bikepackia Android app isn't a public download yet — we're still testing it thoroughly, and expect it to be ready by the end of September 2026. The iOS app is deferred until the Android one has proven stable. Get in touch if you'd like us to prioritise iOS.

Where you sleep

Last verified

Every multi-day route has a 'Sleep spots' card listing your nights; each day opens a search around that day's end point. Filter by camping, hostel or hotel, and each result shows its type and how far off the route it sits. 'Set as stage end' moves the day's end to that place, so the day is planned around where you'll actually sleep.

The 'Sleep spots' screen for Day 1: filter tabs All, Camp, Hostel and Hotel; a card with a '2.0 km off route' badge over a 'LODGE PHOTO' placeholder, the name 'B&B Christacorn House', the type 'Lodge', a green 'Set as stage end' button and a greyed-out 'Book' button with a SOON badge.

How the search works

  • It searches around the end of the day you opened it from, within about 5 km.
  • Results come from OpenStreetMap places plus official tourism listings where they exist.
  • The tabs narrow it to camping, hostels or hotels; Lodge-type places sit under Hotel.
  • Each card shows how far the place is from your route, not from the stage end.
  • A 'Bike-friendly' badge marks places that come from the curated tourism listings (currently France) rather than from OpenStreetMap. It isn't a cycling certification Bikepackia has checked.

Picking a place

'Set as stage end' moves that day's finish to the place and re-routes to it, so the distances either side update. It's the one change you can make on the phone without going through Mec — useful when you're standing outside a full campsite and need tonight sorted in three taps. You can also ask Mec for sleep spots in the chat, which shows the same places on the map to swipe through.

Nothing is reserved and no dates are involved — Bikepackia is planning where you'll be, not booking a bed. The Book button is deliberately inert with a SOON badge until in-app booking exists.

The whole trip at a glance

The 'Where you sleep' summary: three numbered rows — END OF DAY 1 'B&B Christacorn House', END OF DAY 2 'Premier Inn', and TRIP END 'Mauldeth Road West, Manchester…' — each with a chevron.
Every night of the trip in one list.

The Sleep spots card on the route screen opens this summary: one row per night, plus your destination as the trip end. Tapping a row goes back to the search for that night. There's no price, rating or 'booked' badge anywhere, because the app doesn't hold any of that.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bikepackia book the room?

Not yet. It finds places near the end of each day and lets you plan the route around one. The Booking feature is coming soon and there will be a lot more help finding bike-friendly places to stay.

Why is a place shown as 4 km away when it looks like it's on the route?

The distance is measured from the route line itself, so a place beside a different part of the route, or just off it, can still read as a few kilometres away.

No results came back for my stage end. What now?

The search only looks about 5 km around that point, so a stage that ends in empty country can come up empty. Ask Mec to shift that day's end towards a town, then search again.
